Lourdes Primary School Gains Extra Spaces for People

Work starts in Cardonald tomorrow (13 November 2020) to temporarily widen an area of footway close to Lourdes Primary School as part of our Spaces for People programme which is providing extra space for physical distancing to protect public health during COVID-19.

Included in the scope of work to the school access road, will be the painting of double yellow lines directly in front of the footway widening barriers that will link existing double yellow lines with zig-zag markings outside the school entrance.

Supported by funding from the Scottish Government and administered by Sustrans Scotland, Spaces for People is providing temporary travel infrastructure during COVID-19 to make it easier to maintain physical distancing whilst out walking, wheeling and cycling.

Short-term measures across our city centres and neighbourhoods have seen footways widened at pinch points to ease pedestrian movement and make it easier to access businesses, community facilities and public transport hubs. Consideration is also being given to the positioning of temporary pop-up cycle routes to highlight cycling as an attractive, viable and long term travel choice for everyday journeys.

Work on the temporary infrastructure is expected to be in place for a minimum period of 10 weeks, and will be reviewed in line with the Scottish Government's COVID-19: Framework for Decision Making - Scotland's Route Map through and out of the crisis.
