Modern Apprenticeships

What is a Modern Apprenticeship?

Modern Apprenticeships support young people into employment. They can also support young people aged 20-29 if they are disabled or are care experienced.

An apprenticeship is a real job, where you learn, gain experience and get paid. An apprentice will work to an individual training plan and complete appropriate qualifications, sometimes by attending college or a training organisation.

The Glasgow Guarantee, rebranded in September 2015, is the biggest programme of its kind in the UK. A legacy of 2009, £50 million Commonwealth Employment Initiatives, the Glasgow Guarantee is now a core funded employability support programme that provides a wage incentive to employers, who recruit from the pool of Glasgow Guarantee eligible candidates.

The programme offers a commitment that unemployed local people are assisted into a job or modern apprenticeship.

Glasgow Guarantee has modern apprenticeship opportunities with local businesses and Glasgow City Council. Opportunities can be available in:

  • Business Administration
  • Children and Young People (Early Years)
  • Customer Service
  • Construction
  • Engineering
  • Horticulture
  • Mechanics
  • Science
  • Social Care (Adults)
  • Sport

Modern Apprenticeships take between 1-4 years to complete
