Council consultation on bus service provision

Published: 4 April 2016

A consultation is under way by Glasgow City Council to find out what residents think about the current level of bus services in their area.

Its aim is to provide the council with an indication of the areas where a lack of access to public transport is affecting people's ability to access employment, education, social or other activities.

Bus services in Glasgow are provided by commercial companies as part of a deregulated market set up following implementation of the Transport Act 1985.  In many cases this means if a service is not commercially viable the bus operator will no longer operate it.    As a result, gaps in the availability of bus services can occur.

The council is carrying out the consultation to assess the gaps in Glasgow's bus network and provide an indication of any areas where a lack of access to public transport is having an effect on people's lives.

An online consultation hub has been set up to provide a forum for people to have their say on how the availability or otherwise of local bus services in the area affects their day-to-day lives.

It can be found on the council's website and will remain open until 1 May 2016.

In addition to the online questionnaire, a series of public drop-in events will take place across the city to allow people an opportunity to come along and talk to staff directly.
