Jags Honour Summerston Sparklers

Partick Thistle has hailed Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteer Julie Philps their Community Champion.
Thirty-one year-old Julie was presented with a trophy at Firhill on Saturday in honour of the work she does as leader of the Summerston Sparklers group.
Julie works full-time as an HR professional, yet still finds time to organise monthly community clean ups with other volunteers in her area, supported by staff from the Environmental Task Force. She has been a Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteer (NIV) for two years and takes great pride in helping her neighbourhood look its best.
Julie set up the Summerston Sparklers group to inform others of opportunities to volunteer and was nominated for the Partick Thistle Community Champion award by McDonalds in Maryhill.
Award winner, Julie, said: " I had a great time on Saturday. It was lovely that the work of all the Summerston Sparklers was recognised. I'd like to thank all the volunteers and everyone who supports us and our clean ups. The Environmental Task Force has been amazing from start to finish and the support we receive from them is fantastic.
"I think it is everyone's duty as a neighbour and a citizen to do their bit to help make their own area look a wee bit better."
Councillor Frank McAveety, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of the Environmental Task Force, said: "Neighbourhood Improvement Volunteers and groups like the Summerston Sparklers are hugely important. They work in partnership with the Environmental Task Force staff, they love their city and take pride in their communities.
"Huge congratulations to the Sparklers from Glasgow City Council and the Task Force team!"
