Forestry and Woodland Strategy

The Planning (Scotland) Act 2019 requires Glasgow City Council to prepare a Forestry and Woodland Strategy. The Draft Forestry and Woodland Strategy directs tree planting to the most appropriate locations where there are opportunities to contribute towards mitigating climate change and increasing biodiversity, while also providing multiple benefits such as improving amenity and green networks, increasing carbon capture, and contributing to water management.

Once finalised, the Forestry and Woodland Strategy will inform the City Development Plan and the emerging City Development Plan 2, and will be the Council's primary strategy and policy document relating to all woodland and tree planting in the city.

By working together, sharing knowledge and resources, we aim to increase the level of tree canopy cover in the city, while delivering the multiple benefits which trees can provide.
