Period Dignity
Period Dignity in Glasgow
The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 is the world's first legislation making period products free of charge for anyone who needs them.
The Act came into force on 15th August 2022 and places responsibility on Scottish local authorities and education providers to provide a reasonable choice of free products which are easily obtained in a way that respects a person's dignity.
Glasgow City Council, together with its Period Friendly Partner Simon Community Scotland, now provides free period products in nearly 400 locations across Glasgow.

Period Dignity Consultation in Glasgow
The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 requires local authorities to carry out one or more public consultation(s), and to prepare and communicate a statement on their Exercise of Functions - a summary detailing how they will fulfil their legal obligations.
Glasgow City Council launched a public consultation in January 2022. There were three separate surveys to allow us to capture the views of school pupils, organisations and the general public.
In total, there were 2,642 responses to the consultation.
A summary of our findings can be seen below.

A further public consultation will run in March 2025.
