Starting Primary School
If you wish to enrol your child for the start of the new school session in August 2025, they must have attained the age of 5 years between 1 March 2025 and the 28 February 2026.
Parents/carers of those children due to commence attendance at school in August 2025 should register their children for the appropriate local primary school during the week commencing Monday 4 to Friday 8 November 2024. To register you should complete an online application and submit no later than Friday 8 November 2024.
It is usual practice for children to attend their local catchment primary school.
If you live in the Glasgow City boundary you must register your child for P1 at one of your catchment schools. You have a choice schools:-
- Non-Denominational

Enrolling your Child for Primary 1
P1 registration for children starting school for August 2025 will take place from:-
Monday 4 November 2024 - Friday 8 November 2024.
Families will be notified of their confirmed P1 place no later than February 2025. Thereafter, schools will contact parents and carers to invite their children to special open days and visits ahead of the new school term in August 2025.
To register your child at the local catchment school you will need
- A digital copy of the child's birth certificate (The requirement to upload a birth certificate only applies to children who did not attend a nursery or pre-school operated by Glasgow City Council)
- The name of the local school/centre you wish to register the child. If you are unfamiliar with schools within your catchment area, please use our School catchment lookup before completing the form.
If you are considering deferring your child's entry to Primary 1 in August 2025, you should still proceed to register them on line for their catchment school until your deferral application is confirmed. Deferred Entry process.
If necessary, "postal" Enrolment Applications can be requested by contacting Glasgow City Council Customer Business Services, Enrolment Team.
P1 Placing Requests
Some parents may wish to make a written request to place their child in another school under the management of the Education Authority. Such a request is referred to as a placing request. It is essential however those parents must also register their child for Primary 1 at their local primary school initially and before submitting their placing request form.
Parents should note that if they apply and are successful for a P1 placing request into an alternative Glasgow primary school, their P1 place at their child's catchment school will automatically be withdrawn.
If parents subsequently change their mind and wish to attend their catchment school, a fresh Primary 1 catchment enrolment application would require to be submitted on line via GCC Web, and if a space is still available at the catchment school this will be confirmed in writing for parents.
Parents should also note the successful placing of one sibling does not guarantee the placing of subsequent siblings at a later stage.
If necessary, "postal" Placing Request applications can be requested by contacting Glasgow City Council Customer Business Services, Enrolment Team.
