Council to dispose of site of former school and schoolhouse in Crookston to allow house building
The site of the former Howford Primary School and Schoolhouse at 487 Crookston Road in Glasgow is to be disposed of to Bellway Homes, who will build up to 57 homes there.
The disposal of the 3.33 hectares site will raise £3million for the council.
Bellway Homes' bid was considered the best value for the council of 14 bids for the site, after it was placed on the market in June 2024.
The school and schoolhouse were declared surplus to the council's operational requirements in March 2019 and October 2019 respectively, and later, both buildings were subject to emergency demolition following fires, leaving a cleared site.
Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: "The disposal of this site in Crookston is good news for the area and the city: a vacant site will now be given a new and productive use with new and much-needed homes being built there, and a substantial capital receipt for the council will be reinvested into the delivery of public services in Glasgow."
