Lease for Linn Park Adventure Playground to be given to charity

A Glasgow City Council committee today (7 November) approved the sub-lease of Linn Park Adventure Playground to The Yard, a Scottish charity that supports disabled children and young people (aged 0-25) and their families through adventure play.

Facility to help disabled children and young people

The charity, which currently operates in Dundee, Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy, will be given a 20-year full lease to the playground in 2032, when Glasgow Life's current lease on the site ends.

The Yard requested the 20-year lease and has already secured £500,000 funding already from the Scottish Government to establish an operation in Glasgow, having identified these premises as a suitable venue.

The £500,000 funding requires to be spent by 31 March 2025 - there are substantial renovations and upgrading required before the property will be in a suitable condition for use, and these will be carried out by the Yard, as a condition of the grant funding.

Discussions with Glasgow Life are at an advanced stage, and it is hoped that the site can be handed over to The Yard at the end of 2024 with the aim of re-opening in April 2025.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: "Today's decision safeguards the future of the Linn Park Adventure Playground - which will shortly be renovated before reopening as what will be a very valuable facility for disabled children and young people in the city. The Yard has a strong track record of running similar playgrounds and access to funding that would otherwise be lost to this facility."
