Transforming Our City Centre: Safer Streets, Greener Spaces and Better Connections!

The Avenues Programme is set to transform Glasgow's city centre, making it safer and easier for everyone to walk, wheel and cycle.

With an investment of £115 million, this is the largest project of its kind in the UK. The programme will improve connections between different areas, add more green spaces, and make public transport more convenient.

The project will cover 21 locations across Glasgow City Centre and its fringes, creating a network of continuous pedestrian and cycle routes designed with people at the heart.

Funding

The Avenues are divided into three blocks (A, B, and C) and should be completed by 2027/28 through Glasgow City Region City Deal investment.  Additionally, we have secured Sustrans funding to deliver four more Avenues in a new Block S.

The Avenues Programme will reshape the city centre to prioritise space for active travel, improve connectivity, introduce sustainable green infrastructure, and enhance public transport.

Specific improvements will include (Double click on the images to see larger image):
