Education (Scotland) Act 2016 Provisions for Gaelic Education

On 1 February 2017 the Gaelic education provisions of the Education (Scotland) Act 2016 commenced.

Glasgow City Council is the biggest provider of Gaelic Medium Education (GME) outwith the Highlands and Islands and remains committed to continuing to promote and support GME which is in line with the duty within the Act.

Bòrd na Gàidhlig has produced Statutory Guidance on Gaelic Education. This contains information on the assessment process for Gaelic Medium Primary Education for parents and other interested parties. The Guidance also provides information on the context within which Gaelic education in Scotland currently sits. The Guidance can be found on Bòrd na Gàidhlig's website.
