How to apply for a Sex Shop Licence

A Sex Shop Licence is required for any premises used for a business which consists to a significant degree of selling, hiring, exchanging, lending, displaying or demonstrating sex articles.

Schedule 2 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 provides further information on the requirements for a licence.

How do I Apply?

If you are considering applying for a Sex Shop Licence you should contact the Licensing Authority in the first instance for an outline discussion regarding the application.

How much does it cost?

Please refer to our Fees and Charges for details of the current fee and accepted payment methods.

The application will not be accepted without the correct fee.

How to make payment?

Payment should be made by BACS Transfer (electronic banking) to the Licensing Board Account. 

When making payments please quote your licence reference number if you are a current licence holder or quote SEX/Address of Premises if you are a new licence holder as detailed below

Reference: SEX/xxxxx (existing licence holder) or SEX/address of premises e.g. SEX/231 George Street.

Please note that your application will not be formally lodged until payment has been received.  The fees are non-refundable. 

Can someone object to an application?

Any person can make an objection or representation against a grant or renewal application during the 28 day consultation period.
