Nursery, Primary and ASL schools closing due to Industrial Action Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 March 2022

Published: 24 March 2022

***Update Friday 25 March - industrial action suspended and schools and nurseires due to close will open as normal***

A letter from Douglas Hutchison, the executive director of education, has been sent to our families across the city to give them information on the decision to close schools next week ahead of the planned industrial action.

Nurseries, primary schools and ASL establishments will need to close to pupils on Tuesday 29 March and Wednesday 30 March but secondary schools will remain open but with limited catering facilities.

The letter apologies for the short notice and explains that the council was trying to look at potential contingency plans to help keep all schools open but the decision to close has been taken on health and safety grounds.

Douglas Hutchison, executive director of education has said that he has not taken this decision lightly and said: "Our aim, as always, is to secure a safe environment for our staff and young people and maintain continuity of learning for our families where possible but the extent of action on this occasion will mean that we have been left with no option but to close all the city's Primary Schools, Early Learning and Childcare establishments, and ASL schools."

Schools and nurseries will keep their families updated with information.
