The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has announced that the 2022 UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum will take place in Glasgow on 27-28 October 2022.

It will be the fourth edition of the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum after successful editions in Milan (Italy) in 2018, Paris (France) in 2019, and Odense (Denmark) in 2021.

The UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum is the UCI's annual conference dedicated to the promotion of sustainable and active mobility. This event brings together the transportation and cycling communities, alongside representatives from the UCI Bike City and Region network, National Federations, Continental Confederations, UCI advocacy and marketing partners and industry experts.

The 2022 edition will take place at the Technology and Innovation Centre of the University of Strathclyde and will be hosted in collaboration with Glasgow Life. The Forum will once again bring together cycling leaders from around the world for a full day of exchange on the future of mobility on day one, with practical workshops and visits on day two.

Glasgow and locations across Scotland will host the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships from 3-13 August 2023. Glasgow has a proud history of delivering world-class events including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2018 European Championships and most recently the world's largest climate summit, COP26.

Glasgow has an ambitious target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030, and our new Active Travel Strategy and Liveable Neighbourhoods Plan are amongst a number of transport related strategies, which aim to transform streets through positive community engagement, into safe, attractive and welcoming environments, with the inclusion of measures to encourage active travel as the preferred choice of transport.

UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum 2022

UCI President David Lappartient declared"We are delighted to organise the fourth edition of the UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum in Glasgow. This is particularly fitting, as in less than 18 months' time our inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships will be held in the city and across Scotland. Glasgow received the UCI Bike City Label in 2019 in recognition of its plans and actions to truly embed cycling into the lives of the city's populations. As well as providing an opportunity to exchange ideas, the Forum will enable participants to see first-hand some of the city's initiatives as part of its active transport agenda."

Cllr David McDonald, Deputy Leader of Glasgow City Council & Chair of Glasgow Life said: "On the back of Glasgow being awarded UCI Bike City status in 2019, we are delighted that the UCI has confirmed that the city will now host their Mobility & Bike City Forum in October this year. This is a hugely welcome addition to our vibrant conference and events calendar, which is making an important resurgence following the pandemic, and we look forward to welcoming hundreds of international delegates to Glasgow, recognised as one of the world's top five Ultimate Sports Cities. Just over 100 days since Glasgow hosted COP26, this announcement will see us continue on our commitments to promote cycling as a way to combat climate change. The UCI Mobility & Bike City Forum will further develop and highlight our ambition to increase the number of citizens taking up cycling for sport, recreation, and travel.  We look forward to continuing our close relationship with the UCI on the planning of the Forum and of course towards welcoming the world for the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships the following year."
