Drumchapel Surface Water Management Plan (SWMP)
This Glasgow City Region City Deal project aims to reduce the negative economic and social impact of flooding to homes, businesses and transport links, as well as improving greenspace and protecting waterways from pollution.
Project Details:
The Drumchapel Surface Water Management Plan involves works along the Garscadden Burn that will reduce flood risk on both the watercourse and the Scottish Water sewer network.
The construction works undertaken by RJ McLeod on behalf of Glasgow City Council include a flood storage basin west of Conon Avenue, and two flood storage areas to the south of Southdeen Avenue where the flow in the burn will be held back during heavy rainfall events. In addition, new pipes are being constructed between the basin and the flood storage areas.
Working in Partnership:
Glasgow City Region City Deal (funded by both the UK and Scottish Governments), and Scottish Water are key funders of this project through the Metropolitan Glasgow Strategic Drainage Partnership (MGSDP) which is working with partners to deliver a programme of schemes to 'Sustainably Drain Glasgow' - targeting areas across the city where rainfall adversely impacts communities.
Timelines:
The works which started in 2020, are due for completion in Autumn 2021.
