Glasgow Dyslexia Support Service works alongside school staff to support our vision to provide enriching, quality learning experiences in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Parents/ carers can contact us directly, using the email address given, or can ask the management team in their child's school to request a support visit for GDSS staff to meet with them at the school.
Parents can ask their schools to request a GDSS parent workshop.
The service supports schools, children, and young people in a variety of ways.
- We offer workshops to provide information and advice to parents and carers which help develop a positive understanding of dyslexia. Workshops provide practical examples of strategies to use at home.
- We work collaboratively with schools on the assessment and identification of Dyslexia. We support schools in the use of in-depth diagnostic assessments to plan next steps in collaboration with the learner, parents and appropriate staff.
- We can offer support at stages of transition.
- We work within schools, modelling resources and support approaches for learners in a combination of group and whole class support. Our aim is to build skills and self-efficacy in partnership with the school and home.
- Further advice and in-service is available to all establishments, who arrange this by contacting GDSS.
Dyscalculia - GDSS have been involved in a national collaboration to develop the Dyscalculia identification pathway and this is being implemented in Glasgow schools.
GDSS work in partnership with colleagues from other agencies within the authority. We also work at a national level with other local authorities, specialists, and agencies/ bodies such as Education Scotland and Dyslexia Scotland to share good practice and current research.
