Welcome to the Fuel Zone
The Catering and Facilities Management team cater for more than 300 education establishments across Glasgow, serving up around 37,000 healthy and nutritionally balanced lunches each day.
Since its introduction, the Fuel Zone brand has transformed school catering, focusing on creating a bright, informal and encouraging atmosphere in which pupils can enjoy their lunch.
A new menu is designed each year following consultations with pupils, parents, teachers and the catering teams based in the schools. The Fuel Zone team ensure the new menus comply with the Schools Health Promotion and Nutrition (Scotland) Act 2007 and Food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2020.
Glasgow's school meals have won numerous prestigious awards including two EDUcatering awards for Marketing and Innovation and most recently, the Healthy Living Innovation Award at the 2022 Scottish School Food Awards.
Glasgow has also achieved the bronze level Food for Life Served Here Award for the past three years. This is a nationally recognised mark of food quality for school meals - accredited by Soil Association Scotland - which positively impact pupils, kitchen teams and the local economy.
In line with the Food for Life Served Here awarding criteria, all meals served in Glasgow primary schools and early years venues meet the 13 standards associated with the bronze award. These include being free from trans fats and additives, the use of free-range eggs and welfare accredited meat, and they utilise ingredients from sustainable and ethical sources. At least 75% of dishes served in the Fuel Zone are freshly prepared using unprocessed ingredients.

For just £2.10, pupils can select a main item, a yogurt, milk/water, and can fill up on homemade soup, bread, fruit and vegetables.
Between our Fuel Zones, cafes, and external food huts, Glasgow school children have an extensive choice of lunch options, all of which are healthy and comply with the Schools Health Promotion and Nutrition (Scotland) Act 2007.
Our initiatives are all focussed around keeping children nourished as well as safe and within school grounds. We offer a competitive alternative to fast-food outlets and encourage pupils to eat healthier, more filling meals.
