Street Traders Advisory Notice

Street Traders Licence Advisory Notice

  1. The precise location of the proposed stance must be marked on the Ordnance Survey Maps with a box and a dimension in metres given to the nearest junction (see note 2 below).  An example of a suitably marked plan (which must also include a north point) is on display at the Licensing Section, 235 George Street, Glasgow.
  2. The location of the stance quoted in answer to question 8 on the application form should be clearly described giving the following information
    • the name of the street;
    • the side of the street;
    • the name of the nearest side street; and
    • the distance in metres from the nearest side street.  In stating the distance from a side street, the dimension required is the distance from the nearest kerb line of the side street to the side of the trading vehicle nearest to that side street. Example:  "The north side of Smith Street, 30 metres west of Jones Street".  No other information must be added to the Ordnance Survey Maps as this may result in the Licensing Section refusing to accept said Maps.
  3. The trading vehicle or trailer (and where appropriate the attendant or towing vehicle) must not be located within 20 metres of a road junction, pedestrian crossing or the site of a school crossing patrol.
  4. A proposed stance must not result in a significant reduction in carriageway width and will not be permitted in streets less than seven (7.00) metres wide between kerbs.  In order to avoid restriction of pedestrian movement, stances will not be permitted adjacent to footways less than two (2.00) metres width.
  5. A proposed stance must not contravene any waiting and/or loading restrictions.  In the case of a one-way street the stance must be located on the nearside (left hand side) of the direction of travel.
  6. The vehicles must not stand on the footway and must be sited such that customers do not stand on the carriageway while being served.
  7. The trading vehicle must not be positioned permanently or be connected to   main services.  Road gullies must not be used for drainage purposes.
  8. Gas bottles, drainage tanks etc must not be placed on the carriageway or footway.
  9. No advertising or direction signing is permitted other than on the trading vehicle itself.  Traders should note that the Land Services Department has powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 and the Roads (Scotland) Act, 1984 to remove signboards etc placed on the footway, on the central reserve of a dual carriageway, on the grass verge between a   carriageway and footway or fixed to lighting columns, traffic sign poles etc.
