Glasgow urgently needs more foster carers for the city's vulnerable children.

With more people eligible to take on the vital role of fostering, Glasgow's Families for Children is running a campaign in the hope of recruiting new foster carers.

The campaign "Dear Diary" shows handwritten stories and messages from the perspective of children in foster care which will be seen in a new TV, online and video recruitment campaign.

There are many misconceptions about who can foster.

You don't need to be married; you don't need to own your own home; you can be single or living with your partner - and you may already have children of your own. People who are working fulltime can still offer foster care and may find part-time caring a good option.

Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Health, Care and Caring and Older People, said: "Foster carers play a vital role in supporting the vulnerable children of Glasgow. They provide a caring home for children who, for whatever reason, can't be cared for by their parents.

"The contribution foster carers can make to the well-being of children in Glasgow cannot be underestimated in any way.

"But we are always keen to identify more foster carers in the Glasgow and surroundings areas. Having more people ready and willing to foster can only benefit the children concerned.

"It's hoped that, through the campaign, anyone who has ever thought of fostering will come forward - they could end up making a huge and positive difference to the lives of children across the city."
