500 singers and musicians raise the roof at City Halls
Published: 14 December 2016
More than 500 children and young people from schools across Glasgow took to City Hall's stage over the last couple of nights entertaining a packed auditorium with a festive collection of popular Christmas movie tunes and traditional hits.
The annual Glasgow Schools' Christmas concerts gives committed and talented school pupils aged from 6 - 18 years the chance to shine in the city's voice factory, concert band, string orchestra and school symphony orchestras.
Councillor Malcolm Cunning, Chair of the Council's Children & Young People Policy Development Committee, who attended both nights was suitably amazed by the talent.
He said: "The young people of Glasgow are amazing and so talented. It was very much like a professional Christmas Concert.
"The level of instrument skill was very impressive and the singing in both the junior and senior voice factories was delightful.
"Attainment in our schools is obviously very important but it is also crucial that we celebrate the musical prowess of so many of our children and young people.
"The power of music is very strong and I witnessed an amazing strength on the City Hall stage over the last couple of evenings.
"I've already booked my seats for the Spring Concerts!"
The Christmas Concerts are a culmination of many hours of practice - with music tuition in schools across the city.
Pupils attend Voice Factory singing lessons each weekend at City Halls with pupils from P4 - S6.
