About the Programme
The Summer Internship Programme is a 12-week paid work experience opportunity that puts interns at the heart of the organisation. Depending on the role you could be involved in ensuring we deliver our key projects, reviewing current practices or making recommendations to improve hoe we work.
No matter what you're involved in, you'll be helping to achieve our vision of Glasgow as a world class city with a thriving and inclusive economy where everyone can flourish and benefit from the city's success.
Application Criteria
- You must be either a graduating HND college student, or a University Undergraduate who is currently completing their 3rd year of study before returning for 4th year.
- Live in the Glasgow City Council Boundary, this means that the Council Tax for your home address would be paid to Glasgow City Council. If you're unsure you can use the Postcode Checker. Simply enter your postcode and ensure it advises that your postcode is in Glasgow City Council.
- During the recruitment process you'll be asked to provide evidence that you meet the criteria above.
We value and recognise everyone's worth. You can see more about how we support equality, diversity and inclusion in our workforce here. As a part of this we want to reflect the diversity of the city we serve, therefore we particularly encourage applications from black and minority ethnic, and disabled candidates, who are currently under-represented in our workforce.
We've gained highly competitive skills which will directly inform our choices and opportunities - and had a lot of fun. We've specialised in different areas and being able to utilise a broader range of strong skills has made our project more considered and comprehensive and hopeful we will produce some work that can have both an immediate and long-lasting impact (Service Design and Comms Interns)
The internship gave me a phenomenally broad array of experience and workstreams. I have worked with multiple colleagues across the Intelligence Hub and Economic Development on a selection of tasks, in-line with the dynamic needs of the team at that time. This meant that, whilst I didn't have one set and defined project, I got to experience day-to-day life in this avenue of local government. (City Region Intern)
I have really enjoyed my time at the Council so far and it has made me consider a career in public law which I would not have beforehand. As a younger intern who has not had much experience of workplace environments before everyone has been really welcoming and since my first day I have never felt nervous. No matter if I'm lost in a corridor or needing help with my projects, everyone in the Council have been friendly, helpful and accommodating. (Legal Intern)
Overall, programme has been well-run and structured. (Business Analyst Intern)
2022's successful Summer Internship Programme has now come to an end.
14 Interns spent 12 weeks working across a variety of Council Services, including Chief Executive's Department, Health and Social Care, and Neighbourhoods and Sustainability.
Over the 12 weeks Interns worked on a diverse range of projects, all of which will benefit the citizens of Glasgow, the Council and the Interns themselves. Some of the Projects included:
- Chief Executives - Promoting Community Wealth Building in the Supply Chain
- Health and Social Care - Care about Physical Activity and Wellbeing
- Neighbourhoods and Sustainability - City Centre and River Arts Strategy
These are just some examples of the good work all our Interns have been doing over the summer.
Thanks go to all Interns, Managers, Mentors and everyone who worked hard to ensure this year's programme was a success.
