Planning and Building Standards and Public Safety may be able to provide you with documentation and Plans about properties regarding:
- Planning Applications
- Decision Notices
- Building Warrants
- Completion Certificates or
- Letters of Comfort
It may also be possible to view, or obtain a copy of the plans relating to the specific Planning/Building Warrant applications.
Please note you must have received written permission from the architect before we can provide you with a copy of the plans.
Documentation Searches Prior to 1981
Prior to 1981, all records are stored with the City Archivist at the Mitchell Library, please contact them direct, their details are provided below:

How to Apply
Applications can be made by submitting a completed Online Application Form, together with the appropriate fee for each postal address to be searched. Please see section below on "How to Make a Payment".
It should be noted that the fee only covers the cost of searching for the information, there is no guarantee that documentation will be available. There is an additional variable fee if copies of plans are required, the amount of which depends upon the size and number of copies required, when this has been established an indicative cost can be provided.
The time taken to search for documentation depends on the quality of the information supplied, but we aim to respond to:
- 90% of domestic property applications within 5 working days.
- 90% of non-domestic property applications within 8 working days.

Please see below supporting documents required for your application when applying:
- Planning Application or Building Warrant Reference Number (if known)
- Letter of Consent from Owners (Building Warrant Applications only)
- Location Plan if you have one (Planning Applications only)

Please Note:
If your Location Plan (Planning Application) is larger than 3Mbs please Email this to us quoting your Online Form Reference and the property address of your enquiry along with your contact details. Your form will not submit if the file size is over.
How to Make Payment
The Fee payments for all Documentation and Plan Searches for Planning and Building Control Applications should be made by BACS payment to Glasgow City Council, using the undernoted details.
Building Warrant: Documentation and Plan Searches
The fee of £150 for Building Warrant Applications should be made by BACS payment using the undernoted payment details.
Please quote the application reference number and the address of the application of the property search, failure to do so will result in a delay in allocating the payment and validating the application:

Planning Application: Documentation and Plan Searches
Please note for a full planning history of a site, we can search our computer records to 1985, information previous to this we hold on Index Cards that we include as part of the search and they date back to 1947.
We hold copies of Decision Notices from 1990 to present day.
We do NOT provide copies of drawings
The fee of £102 for Planning Applications or a fee of £80 for a Decision Notice should be made by BACS payment using the undernoted payment details.
